Aoife Baker/Greg Machlin

Aoife Baker (they/she) and Greg Machlin (he/him) are neurodivergent writers who fled from the frozen alien planet of Maine and camouflaged themselves as humans in L.A.

Aoife and Greg tell stories about found families that battle against unjust systems. Their protagonists (like themselves) are a ragtag bunch of weirdos: garbage humans, loud marginalized voices, and queer girls who are great with weapons but bad at flirting. Aoife is also non-binary and queer while Greg is just weird. They house these whack jobs in light-hearted genre dramas and gallows-humor-fueled comedies with happy endings for characters who are used to being relegated to sad C-stories.

They wrote for the PBS children’s show Pandemic Playhouse, were named Inevitable Foundation Fall 2021 Screenwriting Fellows, and are repped by Christophe Desorbay at Range Media Partners.

Aoife and Greg’s interest in challenging unjust systems started early. In 2nd grade, Aoife’s elementary school invented a new punishment to dissuade her from moonlighting as a bully-kicking-assassin on behalf of her female classmates who’d been wronged. In 5th grade, when a journalist maligned a disabled student, Greg gave him a taste of his own medicine by writing a scathing letter to the editor… which the local paper actually published.

Before moving to LA, Aoife pursued her love of visual art and got her B.F.A. in Fashion Design at Pratt. Greg pursued playwriting in between getting a B.A. in Theatre Arts from Brown and an M.F.A. from the University of Iowa. Once in LA, Aoife studied screenwriting and honed her creative skills as a professional costume designer on everything from horror features to music videos for Meghan Trainor. On one overnight shoot in a morgue, she wrote 17 pages sitting behind her costume rack. While working as an immigration paralegal, Greg continued to write; his screenplay 7 Days became a Nicholl and Austin semi-finalist.

The two first met on set and bonded over being neuroatypical. Once they teamed up, they realized Aoife’s extraordinary gifts for spatial visualization and writing action complement Greg’s dialogue and structure skills.

In their spare time, Aoife and Greg try to build the world they want to live in; Aoife volunteers for a rescue program for feral cats and cooks for the homeless. Greg teaches elementary school kids how to write screenplays for Young Storytellers and reads Tarot cards for his own mysterious purposes.
